Charlottesville Commissioner of Revenue wins MCCi Excellence Award due to their innovative strategies amidst COVID-19

Charlottesville, VA – The City of Charlottesville Commissioner of Revenue Office was one of six winners for the 2020 MCCi Excellence Awards due to their innovative strategies amidst COVID-19 by deploying several public forms including the Housing Affordability Grant application, Real Estate Tax Relief auditing, Rent Relief application and auditing, and customer document submission.

These forms were made available on the city’s website, making it much more accessible to customers. With this new process, customers could apply to a number of programs and grants online, any time of day, upload their documents and digitally sign the application.

In addition to getting their forms online, the Commissioner of the Revenue office also built a secure public form for uploading and sending documents to the city. This process replaced email, which is not secure, and regular mail, which required staff handling and scanning.

“We wanted to reduce the need for people to come to the office physically, both staff and visitors,"  said Todd DiversCharlottesville's Commissioner of Revenue. "As a bonus, the online processes also turned out to be more efficient and easier to manage.”

The Commissioner of the revenue office is currently working on additional public facing forms including:

The City’s Commissioner of the Revenue Office is excited about adding many more functions for the public and for their department. More information about the Commissioner of the Revenue office can be found at
