Trash, Recycling & Leaf Collection

Trash Disposal Options

City of Charlottesville citizens have several different options for trash disposal. Citizens may choose to purchase individual trash stickers and pay for disposal on a bag by bag basis, or they may choose to purchase either a 32-gallon, 50-gallon, 64-gallon, or 96-gallon annual trash decal, good for trash pick-up on a weekly basis from July 1st through June 30th. Get more information about collection and recycling from the City of Charlottesville’s Waste Management page.

Large Item Disposal

The City of Charlottesville offers disposal of large furniture, appliances, tree limbs and other large or bulky items that cannot fit in a trash container. This service is available for residential customers receiving weekly curbside trash pickup. To arrange for large item disposal, purchase a large item pickup at the Treasurer’s Office. The first pickup will cost $35, the second pickup will cost $50, and the third and subsequent pickups will cost $100. After you have purchased the pickup you will need to call 434-970-3830 to arrange a pickup date.

You may arrange a large item pick up online. You may also purchase the large item pick up by mail. Please mail your completed application and applicable fee to the Treasurer’s Office at the address on the form. Your confirmation number will then be mailed to you and you may call 434-970-3830 to arrange your pickup date.

Please note that automotive parts, hazardous waste, and contractor spoils may not be disposed of through large item disposal pickups. For information on disposing of such items, please call the Ivy Landfill at 434-295-3306.
