Pedal Into Spring: Charlottesville Bike Month Returns with Biggest Celebration Yet!
Gear up for an action-packed May as Charlottesville transforms into a biking paradise with events for all ages and abilities
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA — This May, Charlottesville will come alive with the whir of spinning wheels and the joy of outdoor adventure as the community celebrates its most exciting Bike Month yet. Building on the national celebration established in 1956 by the League of American Bicyclists, Charlottesville's 2025 program brings together local businesses, government agencies, bike organizations and shops, and the University of Virginia to create a pedal-powered extravaganza designed to get everyone rolling.
"Bike Month is about transforming our community one pedal stroke at a time," says Tommy Safranek, City of Charlottesville Bike and Pedestrian Coordinator. "When someone discovers the freedom of cycling—whether it's a child riding to school independently for the first time, a family exploring our beautiful city together, or a commuter leaving traffic stress behind—it creates ripple effects that benefit everyone. This year's program is our most diverse yet, designed to welcome riders of all ages and abilities to experience the joy and practical benefits of cycling in Charlottesville."
