City Reminds Community of Warming Centers and Shelter Options; Key Recreation Center Added as Warming Center
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – As winter weather continues to impact the region, the City of Charlottesville reminds residents and those in need of the availability of warming centers and emergency shelter options throughout the community.
Residents are encouraged to share this information with anyone who may need a warm, safe place to stay during cold temperatures.
Warming Centers:
Key Recreation Center
Key Recreation Center is open today as a warming center:
- Address: 800 E. Market Street
- Hours: 10:00 AM – 9:00 PM
- Pets are welcome; however, pets must be kept in a crate at all times while inside the facility to ensure the safety of all guests.
Clemons Library (University of Virginia Grounds)
Clemons Library is open today as a warming center:
- Address: 164 McCormick Road
- Hours: 10:00 AM – 10:00 PM
Emergency Shelter Options
Community partners have expanded operations to support individuals in need of shelter during this weather event:
PACEM
- 24/7 operations
- Men’s Shelter: University Baptist Church, 1223 W. Main Street
- Women’s Shelter: Belmont Baptist Church, 830 Monticello Avenue
Salvation Army
- 24/7 operations
- Warm rooms open for men and women (supported by PACEM)
- Meals maintained on a regular schedule
The Haven
- Emergency operations activated
- Extended sheltering hours and additional supports available
Residents may also contact Virginia 211 by dialing 2-1-1 or 1-800-230-6977 for information on community resources and assistance.
The City encourages residents to check on neighbors who may need help accessing shelter or warmth and to continue using caution during cold and icy conditions.
