Lakori Brooks Sentenced to 43 Years in Prison
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – Today, in Charlottesville Circuit Court, Judge Claude V. Worrell sentenced Lakori Rayquan Brooks to 43 years in prison for the murder of Cody Smith which occurred near the UVA Corner on March 18, 2023.15 years of the time imposed by the court was suspended leaving an active sentence to serve of 28 years.
Commonwealth’s Attorney Joe Platania stated, “Senseless gun violence like that which took the life of Cody Smith cannot be tolerated, and the severity of the sentence imposed in this case reflects just that.” This case was prosecuted by Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney Nina-Alice Antony.
