Parks & Recreation Seeking Volunteers for Tree-Planting Event
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – The City of Charlottesville Parks and Recreation Department is asking for volunteers to join them in a weekend tree planting event. They are looking for a crew of approximately 20 people to plant 400 two- to three-year-old trees at Quarry Park. The white and red oak trees and smooth sumac plants will be replacements in a three-acre field that was recently mulched.
The event will take place on Saturday afternoon. The exact time and meeting location at Quarry Park on Saturday will be communicated to volunteers once confirmed.
Heavy root pruning will be needed, so please plan to bring clippers, spades, and shovels if you have them. Also, don’t forget to bring water, a hat, and sunscreen! This event is kid-friendly.
Interested volunteers should reach out directly to the City of Charlottesville’s Urban Forester, Steven Gaines at gainess@charlottesville.gov.
