CAT and JAUNT Announce Policies Requiring Passengers to Wear Face Coverings on All Buses

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA– In adherence with
Governor Northam’s Executive Order requiring Virginians to wear face coverings in public indoor settings to help contain the spread of the novel Coronavirus, CAT and JAUNT announced policies requiring passengers to wear masks on all buses. These policies will go into effect beginning Friday, May 29, 2020, and will remain intact until Executive Order #63 is amended or revoked.

Passengers planning to use CAT or JAUNT to travel will be required to wear a face covering.

Face coverings include anything that covers your nose and mouth, such as a mask, a scarf, or a bandanna. The executive order states that any person, age 10 or older, must wear a mask or face covering at all times while “entering, exiting, traveling through, and spending time in train stations, bus stations, and on intrastate public transportation, including waiting or congregating areas,” as well as, “any indoor space shared by groups of people who may congregate within six feet of one another or who are in close proximity to each other for more than ten minutes.”

Upon request, drivers will have a small supply of disposable face masks to provide to passengers. Anyone with a medical condition that keeps them from wearing a face covering, as well as people seeking to communicate with a hearing-impaired person, for which the mouth must be visible, are exempt from these guidelines.

In addition to this effort, both agencies continue to protect the community by professionally sanitizing buses with CDC-approved cleaning materials. The commitment to passenger safety and essential travel remains the highest priority for public transportation in Charlottesville.
