City Announces Police Chief Candidates Ahead of Public Forum This Evening

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – The City of Charlottesville announces the three final candidates for Charlottesville Police Chief: Latroy A. "Tito" Durrette, Michael Kochis, and Easton L. McDonald. A public forum will be held this evening from 6-8 PM in Carver Recreation Center and streamed live for those who cannot attend.

The City started the selection process in August by working with executive recruitment firm Polihire to perform a nationwide search for candidates. After an initial round of screening interviews, Interim City Manager Michael C. Rogers worked with the recruitment firms to select finalists based on applications, resumes, and experience.

Residents will have an opportunity to hear from the candidates at a forum sponsored by the Police Civilian Oversight Board (PCOB). The forum will be held tonight, November 28, from 6:00 - 8:00 PM in Carver Recreation Center (233 4th St NW, Charlottesville, VA 22903) but will also be live streamed and broadcast on Comcast Channel 10 to ensure that anyone in our community has comfortable access to the forum.

THE LIVE STREAM CAN BE VIEWED AT THE FOLLOWING LINK:

Seating is limited given the size of the space. Candidates will be asked a series of questions submitted by the community and compiled by the PCOB who will also facilitate the event.

Questions will be accepted by the PCOB from the community, with a priority on community members who indicate that they live or work in the community, to ensure their questions are asked before those who may only visit the area. Community members may submit questions for consideration either through email or telephone. Due to the time constraints of events, the PCOB will be unable to ask every question received but will work to give the best overview of submissions.

Community members can email the PCOB at pcob@charlottesville.gov or call and leave their questions in the form of a voicemail at 434-970-3794. The Board encourages members of the community to provide that information when you submit your question so that they can prioritize questions from those who live, work, and play in the City of Charlottesville versus other localities.
