City Council Archives for Minutes and Ordinance Books are Now Online
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - Clerk of Council Kyna Thomas announces the completion of an imaging project that brings the City Council archives for Minutes and Ordinance Books right to your fingertips, with Minutes dating back to 1854 and Ordinance Books beginning in 1904.
Are you a researcher, historian, teacher, working on a project, or just curious about old records? Our digital archives can now be viewed on your electronic device. There is no longer a need to schedule an appointment or handle those massive, heavy, delicate books with care.
Digitizing over 8,000 pages of historical records preserves them in their current state, before further fading and deterioration of their physical form occurs, as early records were handwritten and eventually typed. Documents may now be saved and studied in their digital form.

These records have already proven helpful as the community works to tell its full story, and we thank the journalists and historians who have accessed the digital documents and provided feedback. We look forward to continuing to improve records access and preservation. Happy reading!
