CPD Seeking Information in Shooting Incident
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - The Charlottesville Police Department is seeking the community’s assistance following a shooting incident in the 900 block of 1st St. S.
At 10:52 A.M. on January 14, 2022, Charlottesville Police Officers responded to the 900 block of 1st St S for the report of a 2 year old with a head injury. While in route to the scene, Officers were further advised that the injury was a result of a gunshot. The child was transported to UVA hospital and remains in critical condition.

The mother of the 2 year old victim has been identified as Diamond Owens of Maryland. Owens fled from the hospital while Detectives were investigating the incident.
The investigation into this incident has led to the following charges:
Diamond Owens
- Two counts of 18.2-371.1 - Felony Child Neglect
- 18.2-56.2 – Allowing Access to Firearms by Children
In addition, R’Quis Jones of Charlottesville, is wanted on the following charges and is a person of interest in this case:
R’Quis Jones
- Two counts of 18.2-456(6) - Failure to Appear After Charged with Misdemeanor
- Three counts of 18.2-170 - Forging Coin or Bank Notes
