Over the past twenty years, girl's fire and EMS camps have been set up across the United States and Canada to enhance recruitment and engage with local communities. With a decline in volunteerism, it's crucial to implement a multi-faceted strategy to recruit members and effectively meet community needs.
The CFD's Girl Fire and EMS Camp, developed and initiated in 2022, was designed to inspire and provide opportunities for young girls and women to start their journey toward careers in fire and emergency services. By fostering diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging within the fire service, we aim to better serve our communities and effectively manage the diverse range of daily emergency calls.
Fire and EMS camps have proven to be an effective recruitment tool nationwide. As leaders in the fire service, we must contribute to changing the face of the profession and ensuring its sustainability by recruiting from minority groups. Hosting annual girl's fire and EMS camps is a meaningful step towards positively impacting the community we serve.
