Charlottesville Fire Department Hosts 2025 Girls Fire & EMS Camp
Charlottesville, VA — The Charlottesville Fire Department is excited to announce its annual Girls Fire & EMS Camp, taking place July 23–25, 2025, from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM daily. This free, hands-on camp introduces middle and high school-aged girls to the dynamic world of fire and emergency medical services.
Now in its fourth year, the camp is designed to empower and inspire girls by giving them a unique opportunity to learn directly from female firefighters and EMS professionals. Through practical skills, mentorship, and teamwork, participants gain confidence and firsthand experience in a field where women are historically underrepresented.
Who Is Eligible?
Girls entering 8th through 12th grade are invited to apply.
What Will Campers Do?
Campers will:
- Learn and practice stop the bleed and first aid
- Try on firefighting gear and operate hoses
- Participate in search and rescue drills
- Perform basic EMS skills
- Engage in confidence-building and team activities
Why It Matters:
This camp gives young girls the chance to see themselves in roles of leadership, bravery, and service. It’s an opportunity to break down barriers, build connections, and open doors to future careers in public safety.
