Charlottesville Parks & Recreation Hiring For Lifeguards and Camp Counselors 


CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – Charlottesville Parks & Recreation is hiring lifeguards for its indoor and outdoor pools as well as camp counselors to assist with summer youth camps.  For lifeguards, the City is offering bonuses as well as offers free training and certification with a work commitment.  Working for Charlottesville Parks & Recreation is a fun and rewarding experience that provides quality indoor and outdoor facilities, parks and open spaces, programs and events for the community to enjoy.

 Lifeguards

  •  Starting pay is $15.00/hour
  • Must be 15 years old to apply
  • Must be certified to apply
    • The City offers Lifeguard Training Certification Courses and will waive course fees with a work commitment from prospective employees.  Contact Algreatus Batton, battona@charlottesville.gov, for more info.
  • $250 Signing Bonus for Lifeguard I, Lifeguard II or Seasonal Pool Managers (restrictions apply)
  • $250 End of Season Bonus for Lifeguard I, Lifeguard II and Seasonal Pool Managers who complete 150 hours of work between 5/28-8/5/22 (restrictions apply)

 Camp Counselor

  •  Starting pay is $15.00/hour
  • Must be 18 years old to apply
  • Counselors will work with kids ages 5-15 
  • Position requires 40 hours weekly, June 13 – August 12, between the hours of 7:30 am – 5:30 pm (typically 8-hour shift)
