Renewal Cycle for 2026 and Paperless Online Filing Reminder for Business Taxpayers
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – The Charlottesville Commissioner of the Revenue would like to remind local businesses about the business license renewal cycle for tax year 2026.
The filing and payment deadline for business licenses is March 2, 2026.
The filing deadline for business tangible personal property is officially January 31. However, since there is no provision for a late filing penalty, we ask that businesses please file their business tangibles by March 15. A tax bill will be mailed later with a payment due date of June 5.
The City is transitioning to a paperless renewal process for 2026. To access the filing and payment portal, business taxpayers will need to visit www.charlottesville.gov/bizportal.
To enter the portal, you will be asked to provide the following:
- Mailing Zip Code (5 digits)
- Business Tax Account Number (do not include leading zeros)
- EIN / SSN (without dashes)
City businesses were also mailed a letter in November containing similar instructions.
Anyone with questions can email citycorbiz@charlottesville.gov or call the business tax office at 434-970-3170.
