Applications Open for Police Civilian Oversight Board
Charlottesville, VA — The Charlottesville Police Civilian Oversight Board (PCOB) has two Community Resident vacancies and encourages those with significant ties to the Charlottesville community and an interest in oversight of law enforcement to apply.
The Police Civilian Oversight Board is a volunteer group of individuals appointed by City Council to provide objective and independent civilian-led oversight of the Charlottesville Police Department in an effort to enhance transparency and trust, to promote fair and effective policing, and to protect the civil rights of the people of the City of Charlottesville.
The PCOB uses its public platform to discuss topics ranging from state-level legislation affecting law enforcement to local topics such as FLOCK Safety automated license plate readers and oversight of the citizen complaint process for allegations of misconduct. Board members use information gathered from engagement with community members and internal Police Department data and records to present recommendations to City Council, the City Manager, and the Chief of Police. Individuals interested in serving on the Police Civilian Oversight Board should apply through the City's Boards and Commissions Vacancies webpage by November 17, 2025.
Applicants are encouraged to attend an upcoming Police Civilian Oversight Board Meeting (November 13, 6:30 PM at CitySpace) and to review the PCOB City Ordinance, which outlines the duties and powers of the Board. To learn more about the PCOB, its work, and to view reports as well as recordings of past meetings, visit the Police Civilian Oversight Board webpage!
