YOGO (“Let It Go”) Initiative Relaunches in Charlottesville to Address Violence Prevention

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – Local author, educator, and community trailblazer Mr. Alex-Zan is relaunching his proactive violence prevention initiative, YOGO ("Let It Go"), in Charlottesville and the surrounding areas. Originally introduced in 2018 and recognized by the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles and the Virginia Department of Transportation, YOGO aims to reduce the culture of violence, whether by guns, road rage, domestic disputes, or workplace conflict, through a message of mindful de-escalation.

A press and community briefing will take place on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at 10:00 AM in front of Charlottesville City Hall and Ting Pavilion. During the event, the public will be introduced to the full toolkit of YOGO materials designed to spread awareness and empower communities to “let it go” and choose peace.

Distribution of YOGO resources will include:

  • A 30-second radio promo featuring Alex-Zan’s original hip-hop song
  • Posters and handouts
  • Household magnets and stickers
  • A youth-focused TikTok YOGO Challenge

These materials will be shared across local businesses, churches, schools, housing communities, and nonprofit organizations. The YOGO campaign encourages every citizen to embrace a shift in mindset that prioritizes safety, positivity, and productivity in daily interactions.

City officials, school and community leaders, and anti-violence organizations will be present to support the relaunch and amplify the message of “Each One… Reach One.”

The YOGO Initiative is proudly sponsored by the City of Charlottesville.
