City of Charlottesville and Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission to Host Safety Demonstration Project Event
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – The City of Charlottesville, in partnership with the Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission (TJPDC), invites residents to participate in the East High Street Safety Demonstration Project as part of the development of the Move Safely Blue Ridge Safety Action Plan. This public safety demonstration project event will be held on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, from 5:30 to 7:00 pm at the Burnley-Moran Elementary School gymnasium.
The event offers community members the opportunity to review and provide input on three proposed design improvements aimed at addressing safety concerns at the intersection of East High Street and Meade Avenue. The area, heavily traveled by students, has experienced five vehicle crashes between 2018 and 2022 and currently lacks sufficient sidewalks and pedestrian access.
“We’ve heard from the community about safety concerns in this corridor,” said Ben Chambers, City of Charlottesville Transportation Planning Manager. “We welcome feedback from everyone—whether they walk, bike, drive, or roll—so that we can ensure these improvements meet the needs of the community.”
Mr. Chambers explained that the feedback collected will inform the design of the project, and that further input will be gathered to understand the community’s perception of the improvements after implementation.
Community members are encouraged to provide feedback on the potential design improvements through a brief online survey available here: https://bit.ly/CvilleDemo2025. The survey will be open until March 7, 2025.
