Update on Charlottesville Area Transit Bus Involved in Barracks Road Collision
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – On March 4, 2025 at approximately 8:30 AM, a Charlottesville Area Transit (CAT) bus was involved in an accident near the 2500 block of Barracks Road. According to reports from the Albemarle County Police Department (ACPD) and Albemarle County Fire Rescue (ACFR), the bus struck three vehicles before crashing into a single-family home.
Emergency personnel quickly responded to the scene, where the homeowner and the bus driver were transported to UVA Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. There were no passengers on the bus at the time of the accident. No additional injuries have been reported at this time.
After a thorough investigation, the Albemarle County Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Team has determined that the cause of the crash was a medical emergency. Authorities have also confirmed that alcohol and speed were not factors in the crash, and no charges are being pursued against the bus driver. We will continue to cooperate if further information or assistance is needed.
We are extremely grateful that everyone involved is safe and did not sustain serious injuries. Safety remains our top priority, and we are committed to ensuring the well-being of our passengers, operators, and the community. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Albemarle County Police Department and Albemarle County Fire Rescue for their swift response and assistance in the investigation.
