Community Attention Youth Internship Program

2026 CAYIP Sessions Announced 

Winter II Dates: Feb 2nd - March 29th
Application Window : January 5th - January 14th - (closes at 5pm)
CAYIP Academy - January 31st - 10am-12pm 

Spring 2026 - April 6- May 31st 
Application Window :March 8th - March 19th (closes at 5pm) 
CAYIP Academy (April 11th - 10am-12pm) 

Summer 2026 - June 22 - August 2

Program Goals:

  • To teach workplace readiness skills.
  • To assist youth in career exploration.
  • To help youth identify their strengths and build resiliency.
  • To connect youth to positive adults and to resources in the community.

Program Highlights:

  • All interns will participate in CAYIP Orientation and Academy the first week.  Interns will learn workplace readiness skills, communication and conflict management skills, banking and budgeting skills and much more! 
  • All participants will be assigned a CAYIP counselor who meets with the youth  a minimum of once a week on site.
  • Interns are expected to work up to ten hours a week for the eight week sessions (school year) and 20 hours for 6 weeks (summer session). 
  • Interns will have the opportunity to earn a performance-based stipend up to $15 per hour  
  • Interns will work with CAYIP staff to complete a resume at the end of the session.
  • Transportation is not provided. Interns must be able to provide their own transportation to and from site. 

Application and Acceptance Process:

  • The program is open to youth between the ages of 14-21. CIty of Charlottesville residents receive priority acceptance.
  • Youth and their guardians will need to complete a CAYIP Application which includes the 
  • Interviews will be conducted one on one with youth and CAYIP staff. 
  • Accepted interns will participate in mandatory CAYIP Academy where will they learn more about their site placement, engage with other interns and their assigned counselor.
