Thank you to all members of the community and internal department staff for taking the time to review the first draft produced of the ADA Transition Plan Update document in April 2025. All feedback has been reviewed that was sent to the ADA Coordinator. An updated document is linked below that responds to some of the input provided internally and by the community. The PDF below has been properly remediated, and we have also provided the document that certifies its accessibility for review.
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) mandates that all State and Local Government agencies (referred to as Title II agencies) employing 50 or more individuals must undertake an ADA Self-Evaluation and Transition Plan. This requirement extends to all public entities, regardless of their size.
The City of Charlottesville has engaged Precision Infrastructure Management, a consulting firm with extensive experience in ADA-related projects, to perform, manage, and draft the final ADA Transition Plan with close City support.
For the ADA Transition Plan update process, the first stell as noted above will be the Self-Evaluation process. Following the completion of each area of self-assessment, the City of Charlottesville will work with its partner, Precision Infrastructure Management (PIM), to create “Implementation Plans” for remediating ADA deficiencies found during the self-assessment phase of the project. These implementation plans will be informed by ADA regulations, City code, and public input, among other factors.
Once the drafting of all Implementation Plans has been completed in full and properly reviewed by key City Staff, the full ADA Transition Plan will be presented to the public and Charlottesville City Council for comment. The ADA Transition Plan is intended to be a “living document” and should be updated continuously with additional community feedback, updated self-assessments, and updated remediation schedules.
PIM has created an ArcGIS StoryMap to show information about the ADA Transition Plan process and details about the self-assessments performed on City Right of Way (ROW). Input gleaned from the public engagement survey is also included, and this StoryMap will be updated with additional information as it is collected and analyzed.
