Captain Tony Newberry currently serves as the Captain of the Criminal Investigations Division. He began his career with the Charlottesville Police Department in 2006 after graduating from Radford University with a degree in Bachelor of Science for Criminal Justice.
Newberry served in the Field Operations and Investigations Division until he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2016. He served as a Detective Sergeant until being promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in 2019. As a Lieutenant, Newberry was assigned to Field Operations. In 2023, he was promoted to the rank of Captain.
