City of Charlottesville Garden Plots - Public Awareness & Interest Survey
Why We Are Asking for Your Input?
The City of Charlottesville Parks and Recreation Department is gathering public input to better understand community awareness of and interest in the City’s Garden Plot program. This feedback will help Parks & Recreation evaluate whether the current number of garden plots is meeting community demand and explore ways to improve access and outreach.
Participation in this survey is voluntary, and responses will be reviewed in aggregate. Your feedback will not affect your eligibility for a garden plot.
Charlottesville Parks & Recreation offers garden plots at the following locations for patrons to rent for personal gardening:
2026 Rental Dates

| City Residents | January 12 - 31 |
| Non-Residents | February 1 - 21 |
Renting Unallocated Plots
Applicants will be selected by lottery after the application deadline on February 21, 2026. City residents will be given priority. Selected applicants will be contacted by phone/email in the order they are selected and be given the option to select any of the remaining plots available. If contacted, the applicant will have 3 business days to reply with a plot selection. If no selection is made, staff will move down the list of lottery selected applicants. If you are selected and you are unable to make a selection within 3 business days you may still contact us to make a selection from available plots at the time.

If you do not have a Market Spread profile you must first create one before applying. Click the "Register Here" link at the top of the log-in prompt to create your profile. Select "Other" as your category when creating your profile. After you complete your profile you may continue on to the application.

Option 2: Renew over the phone by calling (434) 970-3260, Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:00 pm. Staff will create your profile for you and get your application in. Staff will reach out with a plot assignment if available
Garden Plot Rules and Regulations
The rental period is from March 1 through December 31.
