Frequently Asked Questions

All practice and game schedules for Youth Basketball are based on team placements—full details will be shared prior to the season starting. Typical practice and game schedules are:

K–3rd Grade (Coed Divisions)

• Practices: Monday or Wednesday evenings (between 5:30 PM – 8:00 PM)
• Games: Saturday mornings (between 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM)

4th–8th Grade (Boys and Girls Divisions)

• Games: Monday, Wednesday, or Thursday evenings (between 5:30 PM – 9:00 PM)
• Practices: Saturday mornings (between 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM) OR Sunday afternoons (between 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM)

Exact times and locations will be assigned after teams are created.

All youth basketball coaches are volunteers. Volunteer coaches are essential to the success of the league. No experience is required training and resources will be provided.

Interested coaches should contact our Athletics Programs Manager at athletics@charlottesville.gov or by completing our Youth Volunteer Basketball Coach Application.

The cost of registration covers jerseys, equipment at practices, and all games/practices.

The financial aid program is available to City of Charlottesville residents only. Eligibility for financial aid is based upon gross annual income and household size. Proper documentation must be submitted in order to be considered for eligibility. If the applicant does not have the required documentation, then he or she must have income verified by the City of Charlottesville’s Department of Social Services, using the department’s standard income verification processes and methods. Children who are under the custody of the City of Charlottesville’s Department of Social Services are also eligible.
