Weekend Apartment Fire Claims One Life

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - An afternoon fire at a Carlton Ave apartment on Saturday, November 20th, claimed the life of one adult.  The Charlottesville Fire Department responded to the 1200 block of Carlton Ave for a report of a fire in an apartment.

When firefighters arrived, they quickly entered the burning apartment and extinguished the fire while searching for people trapped.  Firefighters located and rescued one adult and transported the victim to a local hospital where that person later died.  The Charlottesville Fire Marshals are investigating the fatal fire to determine the cause.

Firefighters remind everyone to check their smoke alarms monthly and verify those alarms are not older than ten years.  Alarms older than ten years must be replaced.
