CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - On September 11, 2021, a Charlottesville Police Officer witnessed a verbal disorder in the 1000 block of West Main Street. As the officer approached to investigate, he observed one of the males getting into a vehicle. The male then proceeded to strike the other male with his vehicle. The officer then heard a single gunshot. The officer learned the male who had been struck by the vehicle fired a single gunshot into the front windshield of the vehicle, narrowly missing the driver.
The officer was able to safely subdue the male with the gun, as well as the male driving the vehicle. The gun was seized as evidence. The male struck by the vehicle suffered minor injuries that did not require treatment.
As a result of this investigation the driver of the vehicle, Roy Willard Gray, a 62-year-old resident of Albemarle County, is charged with Malicious Wounding (Virginia State Code 18.2-51). Gray is being held at the Albemarle/Charlottesville Regional Jail.
