FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
December 9, 2020
The Charlottesville Police Department is announcing a press conference in response to the conclusion of the Internal Affairs investigation stemming from an alleged racial profiling incident on Rugby Road, which occurred on October 7, 2020.
A third-party complaint was received by members of the Universalist Unitarian Church on October 19, 2020, in which an internal affairs investigation was immediately launched per department policy.
The press conference will be held on Thursday, December 10, 2020, at 3:30 p.m. inside the City of Charlottesville’s York Place Studio, located at 112 West Main Street on the Downtown Mall. Chief RaShall Brackney, Assistant Chief Jim Mooney, and Lt. Michael Gore of our Internal Affairs Unit will be in attendance.
To ensure proper COVID-19 safety protocols are followed, only one member from each credentialed media outlet may attend in person, with a maximum of five members of the press inside the studio for the duration of the press conference. Credentialed media representatives who are unable to attend in person may participate via Zoom and will also have the opportunity to ask questions. The press conference will also appear for the public on the department’s social media sites and the City’s website streaming platform.
Those who wish to attend in person must contact Public Information Officer Tyler Hawn via email. Spots will be filled on first-come, first-serve basis.
