UPDATE: Charlottesville Police Department (CPD) Obtains Warrants In Relation to April 9 Shooting
CPD Detectives have obtained arrest warrants for Sidney Montcellus Stinnie of Charlottesville in connection to the April 9, 2024 homicide of 31-year-old Deqwane Brown. The charges include the following:
- 18.2-32 – Second Degree Murder
- 18.2-53.1 – Use or Display of a Firearm in Commission of a Felony
- 18.2-.08.2 – Violent Felon in Possession of a Firearm
Mr. Stinnie has not been taken into custody and is considered armed. This investigation is ongoing. If you have knowledge of Sidney Stinnie's location or any information related to the incident, please contact Crime Stoppers Tip Line at (434) 977-4000.
Mr. Stinnie is presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

CPD Investigates First Homicide of 2024
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - On April 9, 2024, at approximately 7:30 p.m., Charlottesville police officers responded to a report of a shooting in the area of 12th St. and Rosser Ave.
Upon arrival, officers located the victim, 31-year-old Deqwane Brown, inside of a vehicle suffering multiple gunshot wounds. Mr. Brown was pronounced deceased at the scene. CPD is actively investigating this case; updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
