Charlottesville Man Charged in Michie Drive Case
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - On March 5, 2024, CPD Officers were dispatched to the 2100 block of Michie Dr for the report of an armed robbery of a male victim.
The reported victim stated he was robbed at gunpoint and his vehicle, wallet, and phone were stolen. After releasing a BOLO (Be On the Lookout) notice to neighboring jurisdictions, Albemarle County Police officers located the reported victim’s vehicle in the 700 block of Castle Ct. The reported victim’s vehicle had been reported in that area as being involved in a vehicle vandalism just prior to this encounter. All occupants fled from the vehicle when a traffic stop was attempted. One person was detained with the vehicle and subsequently identified by the reported victim as one of the suspects who had robbed him. As a result, that person was taken into custody for the robbery.
Through further investigation and interviews with the aforementioned individuals, it was determined that the reported victim had falsely reported the robbery in an attempt to cover up his involvement in the vehicle vandalism.
Based on further investigation, warrants on the person taken into custody for the robbery have been rescinded. The reported victim, Timothy Newton Jr. of Charlottesville, has been charged with VA Code 18.2-461 - Filing a False Police Report.
The investigation into the vehicle vandalism remains ongoing.
