FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

May 28, 2020

The Charlottesville Police Department is pleased to announce the debut of a brand new recruitment video.

Beginning in late 2018, CPD collaborated with the Charlottesville Police Foundation and Ian Atkins, a local videographer and owner of Ian’s Creations, to highlight how CPD delivers “Service Beyond the Call” to the Charlottesville community. This video walks potential applicants through everything from training, to day-to-day duties, job benefits, and engaging with the Charlottesville community. This is exactly how the department strives to keep its community safe, and practicing “Service Beyond the Call” each and every day.

“I am pleased with the final product that was created by Mr. Atkins to best capture why Charlottesville is one of the best cities to become a law enforcement officer,” said Chief RaShall Brackney. “With many who have recently become unemployed during the COVID-19 pandemic, this new video can help those who are actively searching for work consider a career in public service, and deliver ’Service Beyond the Call’ to the Charlottesville community during these challenging times.”

The Charlottesville Police Department would like to extend a big thank you to the Charlottesville Police Foundation for their support and funding this project.

“We love our community and are so grateful for the officers who dedicate their lives to protecting this place we call home," said Gail Milligan, executive director of the Charlottesville Police Foundation. "The Charlottesville Police Department is a worthy organization to establish a career in law enforcement, and we’re happy to have the opportunity to offer our support."

"We also greatly appreciate the skill of Ian Atkins to highlight what the CPD has to offer," added Milligan.

CPD is working to fill 11 positions for the January 2021 academy, and with the help of social media and other networking platforms, the department intends to reach a diverse pool of potential new officers around the world.

Applications for the January 2021 academy will be accepted starting next week, with testing dates to be announced in the near future. Click here  for more information.

The video debut will take place on Friday, May 29, 2020, at 11:30 a.m. inside City Council Chambers. Due to physical distancing guidelines, this event is closed to the public, however, a select number of the press may attend this event. Members of the press who wish to attend must contact Public Information Officer Tyler Hawn ahead of time.

Photos and videos from the video will be provided on CPD’s social media channels and website following the debut.
