Joe Phillips Promoted to Deputy Fire Chief
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - Please join us in congratulating Joe Phillips, who was appointed to the role of Deputy Fire Chief on November 11, 2023. We thank him for his contributions and continued commitment to the growth of the Charlottesville Fire Department (CFD).
Formerly the Battalion Chief of Risk Reduction, Deputy Chief Joe Phillips now oversees the Community Risk Reduction Division, which includes accreditation, insurance rating, planning, data analytics, public information, and internal affairs. Deputy Chief Phillips is the Public Information Officer for CFD and is also the city's appointed Fire Official. Deputy Chief Phillips is a 24-year CFD veteran and a lifelong resident of the area. He supervises the Fire Marshal's Office, which enforces Statewide Fire Codes and fire investigations, and handles environmental crimes.
Additionally, he is a HazMat Technician, nationally registered paramedic, and sworn law enforcement officer.
