Charlottesville Fire Department (CFD) promotes Assistant Fire Marshal to Battalion Chief
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – The Charlottesville Fire Department promotes Assistant Fire Marshal Captain Jonathan Williams to Battalion Chief.

The Charlottesville Fire Department (CFD) has announced the promotion of Captain Jonathan Williams to Battalion Chief, effective September 17, 2022. He has served the department since 2000 (22 years).
He is an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-Intermediate) in the final stages of completing his four-year degree from Columbia Southern University. Over the years, he served as an Assistant Fire Marshal, an Engine, Tower, Truck, and Tiller operator, and HazMat Technician.
Certifications include:
- HazMat Tech 3
- EVOC 3 & 4
- ICS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, 800
- ITR 1 & 2
- Vehicle Rescue Operations
- Rope Rescue Operations
- Trench Rescue Operations & Technician,
- Fire Instructor I & II
- Fire Officer I & II
- USFA O-305 All-Hazards Incident Management Team certification.
Chief Williams has also completed NFPA 1031 (Standard for Professional Qualifications for Fire Inspector and Plans Examiner), NFPA 1033 (Standard for Professional Qualifications for Fire Investigator), and the Virginia Fire Marshal Academy for Basic Law Enforcement. He holds additional certifications in the following: Fire and Explosion Investigator, Virginia Building Code Official, and Virginia Building Code Plans Reviewer.
Through internal promotion, succession planning, and continuous professional development, the Charlottesville Fire Department will continue to advance as a 21st-century Fire & Emergency Services organization.
