New Fire Marshal
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA -
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - The City of Charlottesville announces the appointment of Battalion Chief Joe Phillips as the City Fire Marshal and Fire Official. Chief Phillips replaces Deputy Chief Joe Powers. Battalion Chief Phillips swearing-in occurred at 1:00 p.m., at the Charlottesville Circuit Court Building.
Chief Joe Phillips joined the Charlottesville Fire Department in January of 1999 as a Firefighter/Medic. He has been promoted through the ranks of Fire Captain and Battalion Chief. Phillips has served in the Fire Marshal’s Office and Community Risk Reduction (CRR) since 2017. He will be responsible for the oversight of the CRR Bureau and the responsibilities of the Fire Marshal’s office.
The Charlottesville Fire department has begun a nationwide search for a Deputy Chief of Community Risk Reduction.
