Thursday, June 4, 2020

VDOT is conducting the 5th Street (Route 631/Old Lynchburg Road) Corridor Study to identify multimodal transportation needs and improvements on 5th Street. We invite you to provide input on the alternatives by attending the Alternatives Public Meeting.

Please join VDOT for the online public meeting on June 4, 2020 from 6 p.m. - 7 p.m. EST. A presentation will be given from 6 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. EST followed by a question and answer session from 6:30 p.m. - 7 p.m. EST.

The meeting will require pre-registration at bit.ly/5thstreetwebinar

A computer or smart phone is needed to gain access to the online public meeting. If you plan to use your smart phone, please download the GoToWebinar app in advance of the meeting. A copy of the meeting presentation materials will be provided to all registered meeting attendees and will also be posted to the project website one week in advance of the meeting.

Please share the attached flyer with your community members so that we may collect their input as well. We would also like to encourage you to share the following blurb through your social media channels:

Alternatives Survey

Help us identify transportation solutions for 5th Street by taking our upcoming survey. The survey will be available from May 28, 2020 through June 26, 2020. We will send a follow-up e-mail on May 28 when the survey is live.

More about the Study

The study will evaluate automobile, transit, bicycle, and pedestrian conditions along 5th Street between Harris Road and Ambrose Commons Drive in the City of Charlottesville and Albemarle County. The study will assess future travel projections and development patterns and generate a short- and long-term investment plan to address the study goals and objectives.

The study vision is for 5th Street to develop as a Complete Street that supports development and provides safe and comfortable travel for all uses and users of the roadway. The study goals are to:

  1. Improve safety and comfort
  2. Manage congestion
  3. Support economic development
  4. Support environmental sustainability and community health
