Eligibility

The scholarship program is available to City of Charlottesville residents only. Eligibility for a scholarship is based upon gross annual income and household size. Proper documentation must be submitted in order to be considered for eligibility. If the applicant does not have the required documentation, then he or she must have income verified by the City of Charlottesville’s Department of Social Services, using the department’s standard income verification processes and methods. Children who are under the custody of the City of Charlottesville’s Department of Social Services are also eligible.

Residency and Income Documentation

In order to be considered for a Charlottesville Parks & Recreation scholarship, a signed application with the following documentation must be submitted:

  1. PROOF OF RESIDENCY paperwork, which includes: a government-issued ID, a utility bill or a residential lease.
  2. A SIGNED WAIVER to obtain financial information from the Department of Social Services or a signed copy of the applicantʼs current U.S. Federal Income Tax return.

Benefits

Recreational classes, programs and camps 

The Charlottesville Parks & Recreation scholarship provides a 25% to 90% discount for recreational classes, programs and camps on a sliding scale based on gross annual income and household size.

Recreation centers and pools

The Charlottesville Parks & Recreation scholarship provides a 25% to 90% discount for passes only to Carver Recreation Center, Key Recreation Center, Smith Aquatic & Fitness Center, Onesty Family Aquatic Center and Washington Park Pool on a sliding scale based on gross annual income and household size.
