OED Hires Minority Business Development Coordinator

We are pleased to welcome Ajoni Wynn-Floyd to the City and the OED. She will serve as our next Minority Business Development Coordinator and continue the work of further developing and assisting minority business growth. Ajoni has a Marketing degree from Radford University where she also held leadership roles with the Diversity Awareness Program board and the Latino Student Alliance. Updates from Virginia Career Works

The Downtown Job Center staff recently met with Alicia Lenahan and her new team at Virginia Career Works. Alicia serves as the Center Manager for the local Virginia Career Works office located at 944 Glenwood Station Lane, which is also the home of the Virginia Employment Commission. The center serves as the primary resource for the piedmont region for employers, job seekers and unemployment benefits. The visit helped connect new VCW staff with additional community resources. VCW staff are on site at the job center once a week to provide additional services and stronger connection to statewide resources. The Downtown Job Center and Virginia Career Works have been community partners for many years. Employers or job seekers in need of assistance should reach out to Roy Fitch at 970- 3959.

MarieBette Cafe and Bakery Donating Portion of Sales

MarieBette Café and Bakery in downtown is donating a portion of November’s bread sales to the Charlottesville International Rescue Committee. The proceeds from the sales will go directly towards helping refugees who have relocated to Charlottesville.
