Deputy City Managers, Lyons and Ratliff, Report to City Hall Today

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – Lionel Lyons and Eden Ratliff have assumed their new roles as Deputy City Manager for Operations and Deputy City Manager for Administration, respectively. Mr. Lyons most recently served as the Deputy City Manager for Development & Operations for the City of Petersburg, VA, a role he held for four years, and Mr. Ratliff most recently served as the Manager of Kennett Township, Pennsylvania, a role he held since 2019. Their first day is today.

City Manager Sam Sanders is looking forward to working with both. “I know that Lionel and Eden will both perform at a high level due to their past experiences. They have done this. I’m looking to them to ensure we can get our arms around the variety of things currently in play so we can complete the work that needs to be done to promote organizational excellence,” Sanders said.

The Deputy City Manager for Operations will oversee a variety of assignments relating to the City’s Capital Improvement Plan and special projects, organization-wide initiatives, and operational efficiencies. His portfolio will include Neighborhood Development Services, Public Works, Transit, and Utilities. “I am so enthusiastic to be here and look forward to making great progress. I am excited and I know we will accomplish a lot,” Lyons said.

The Deputy City Manager for Administration will oversee a variety of assignments relating to the City’s Strategic Plan Framework such as special projects, organization-wide initiatives, capital improvement planning, and operational efficiencies. His portfolio will include Budget, Finance, Human Resources, and IT. “I’m very excited to be in Charlottesville and to use my years of experience and education on a great cause – to help the City Manager further the priorities outlined in the Strategic Plan Framework for the City,” Ratliff said.

Lyons and Ratliff both report to the City Manager.
