The Charlottesville Human Rights Commission seeks public input for legislative priority recommendations to City Council

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - Each year, Charlottesville City Council develops its legislative agenda and sends its recommendations to the Thomas Jefferson Area Planning District, which sends a set of regional legislative priorities to the General Assembly. One of the roles of the Charlottesville Human Rights Commission (HRC) is to guide City Council in prioritizing state-level legislation that affects human rights. The HRC is currently seeking public input as it develops its recommendations to City Council ahead of the 2023 General Assembly legislative session. Members of the public can help the HRC select legislative priorities by completing the community survey found at this link: https://www.charlottesville.gov/hrcsurvey. The HRC will consider the information gathered through this survey when preparing legislative recommendations to send to City Council. This survey will remain open through to 5:00 PM on Monday October 3, 2022.

The HRC envisions this community survey as an opportunity for members of our community to publicly raise topics of shared concern related to human rights. As an advisory body to City Council, the Human Rights Commission can bring Council’s attention to systemic and policy-level human rights concerns and advocate for positive change. Members of the public can also join and participate in HRC meetings and view HRC meeting agendas posted on the City Website calendar.
