Please see the updated list below of facility/amenity changes, closures, and cancellations.

Statement Regarding Closing/Opening Decisions:

As part of Governor Ralph Northam’s “Forward Virginia” plan to safely and gradually ease public health restrictions to help contain the spread of COVID-19, most of the Commonwealth, entered into Phase 3 on July 1, 2020. The Charlottesville City Manager has determined that to ensure the health and safety of staff and the public as we transition, for now, the City will remain under Phase 2 restrictions.  Below is a list of Parks & Recreation facilities/amenities that are open/closed as the City remains in Phase 2.

Facilities/Amenities Open

  • All City parks and trails (see list of closed amenities below)
  • All Playgrounds on City or school property
  • All Outdoor Basketball Courts (except Washington Park due to court surface maintenance) on City or school property
  • Picnic Shelters: First-come, first-served until further notice.
  • Charlottesville Skate Park: Open Daily, 8:00 AM - Sunset
  • All Tennis Courts: Open play only, no reservations.
  • Athletic Fields: Instructional reservations only, no competition.
  • Meadowcreek Golf Course
  • Dog Parks
  • City Market To-Go: Drive-thru model only
  • Sugar Hollow Reservoir

Facilities/Amenities Closed (Until Further Notice)

As conditions change during Phase 2, the City will continue to explore the possibilities of re-opening additional facilities and amenities that align with the required safety precautions. The following remain CLOSED:

  • All Indoor Recreation Centers and Pools
  • Park Restrooms
  • Downtown Administration Office
  • Swimming Pools
  • Spray Grounds

Programs/Event Cancellations

  • Registered programs at closed facilities are canceled until further notice.  Some programs and/or virtual programs may be able to be added on a limited basis at a later date.  All special events for the summer season are canceled.

Customers affected by the program/event cancellations will receive additional information from Charlottesville Parks & Recreation regarding refund options.
