Charlottesville Police Officers protect the people and property of Charlottesville by regularly patrolling assigned areas within the city in police vehicles, bicycles, and on foot. Officers respond to calls-for-service made by citizens, initiate investigations into criminal and traffic offenses, enforce local and state laws, uphold the United States Constitution, and regularly testify in courts of law.
In an effort to attract certified officers, the Charlottesville Police Department has created a certified officer incentive package. This incentive is offered to officers who are Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) certified and have two or more years of experience as a full-time officer with a Virginia law enforcement agency.
Upon completion of the FTO Program, a certified officer will receive a cash bonus of $5,000.
